Birth of Baby Boy Jireh!

Laboring at home as long as possible; double hip squeeze, side back rub. We were in the zone. Client asked for gospel music to be played. (So I played Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Tremayne Hawkins, Marvin Sapp, Rickie Byers-Beckwith and the Agape choir and more!) Sometimes you just have to have "Chuch" to birth! (and I do mean Chuch without the r.)  Every birth is different, I give each laboring mom what she asks for that will support her highest birth intention.

Got to hospital, she was 6 centimeters dilated, kept gospel music playing, room dark, only bathroom light on, client felt the need to hug me, hang on to me throughout the transition part of labor when she got a contraction. She told me later that my holding her hand rubbing her back was not enough during this part. Trust me when I tell you, she had a hold on me! I really love this photo, such love and surrender on both our parts.
About 5 pushes and Jireh out and on his mama!

Premdev, doula, is full of love and joy!

Mama and Jireh so happy! And so am I!

More happiness!

 Pure Satisfaction and Joy!

I know..... just too cute for words! Thank you God!

Post visit at home with mama and Jireh. We were having a talk. He was telling me all the extraordinary things he came to the planet to do. I was so excited for him, I just agreed with everything he shared with me! We were having some soul to soul eye contact.
Sweet baby, so still and quiet from within.

Wow! Thank you Holy Holy Spirit! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am once again most grateful and honored to be of service to your divine mothers in supporting them in bringing forth the healers of this next generation. Childbirth is filled with surrender on so many levels, not to mention the surrender a doula must make, as well as a laboring woman!  I got to my client's home around 1:30pm. She was ready for me to help her through the birth surges (contractions) by giving massage, aromatherapy, music, prayer, walking, squatting, whatever would support her in getting through each contraction.  She labored at home until 8:15pm, and then we left for the hospital.  We got to the hospital at 9:00pm and when the midwife came to check her, she was already 6 centimeters dilated, more than half way there!  I remember my client whispering in my ear, I don't know if I can do this, (this statement was made after her water broke and when her contractions were even more intense!)  I said to her, "if you need to get an epidural then that is quite alright, it is okay.  If you feel that you have done your best, that is what's important. Let go of any judgments you may have about getting an epidural."  About five minutes later she says to me, "I think I can do it (have a natural birth), I just really need you to be here for me."  I said, "I am right here with you and I'm not going anywhere."  At this moment, I knew that she had made the shift and was completely committed and surrendered to having a natural birth.

We eventually were taken to the room where she would birth and in this room we set a healing and soothing atmosphere, as I mentioned above, lights were off, and only the bathroom light was on. Gospel music was playing and she would occasionally sing or hum through a contraction.  When she would have a contractions, she would get up on all fours in the bed and rock her hips, we would massage her back, hips, legs and she would be very engaged in long deep breathing.

Finally, at 11:40pm on October 18, 2012, baby Jireh was born healthy, naturally without pain medication.   Mom and baby are doing great!  Jireh was born on my sister's birthday and one day before my birthday! What a wonderful birthday present for me and my sister!  I was laughing at myself, thinking come on little baby you can come on my birthday (just 20 more minutes), then I'd look at my client and think, okay just get the baby out, after all it's not about me! Right!  What a great birth!  Congratulations new mama D! You did excellent! Warrior Woman that you are! Stand in it!  I love you and I am so happy that you chose me to be there with you!

IMPORTANT UPDATE! on Upcoming Pregnancy Workshops!!

"Birthing in Alignment With the Intelligence that You Are!"
As you may know, the Pregnancy Workshop "Birthing in Alignment with the Intelligence that You Are!" will be held this Saturday 9/22/2012 from 11am-3pm in my home in Huntington Beach.  There will not be a Pregnancy Workshop held in November or December of this year, due to the holiday season.  The Pregnancy Workshop on Saturday, October 27, 2012 may be cancelled as well, as I will be on-call for multiple births beginning the middle of October to the middle of November. I have been so completely in the "summer zone" that I had not realized how fast the holidays were approaching, and that we are literally in the last 3 months of the year!

If you were planning on taking the Pregnancy Workshop and your due date is in November, December or early-mid January, please contact me directly and we can set up a private session that will support you.  The private pregnancy workshops cost: $80/individual and $140/couple.

So, this Saturday and possibly October will be your last opportunity to take the Pregnancy Workshop this year at the lower rates.  Please note, the workshop rates will increase at the first of the year.

Over these past nine years as a birth doula, the primary concern I have heard from expectant mothers is how fearful they are of the pain of labor.  Our society, (traditional childbirth education classes) does not teach how to manage pain and discomfort positively, confidently and successfully.  Childbirth takes time and it is work.  Hospitals know this and that is one of the reasons that the epidural is at the ready.   The collective mentality about labor is “You don’t have to put yourself through this.”  Through what?  As my client put it so eloquently, “No, I don’t need a wheelchair, it’s just labor.. sheeze!”  Childbirth requires the pregnant woman to be internally focused and calmed from within.  She must listen within and attune to the innate Intelligence of her body so that she knows how to move, how to breathe, how to SURRENDER in order to support her baby through and out of her body.

This Pregnancy Workshop “Birthing in Alignment with the Intelligence that You Are” provides (more like reminds) a pregnant woman (and partner) of the skills she already possesses in order to birth forth her child in grace, confidence and faith.  Pain medication is always an option during labor.  I ask women, if you had the option of having your ideal childbirth experience, would you prefer to birth your child with pain medication or without pain medication?  Ninety percent of them say without pain medication. Most women want to birth forth their children without medical intervention. The problem is many women do not believe they can experience a natural non-medicated birth.  I am here to tell you that not only is it possible, I have seen it over and over.  I believe that you can do it!  I know you can do it!  The key to having a natural birth is doing the conscientious work required during your pregnancy and labor.  (If you are moved to find out more, click on the link at the bottom and register.  The deadline to register is Wed. 8/22/2012 and seating is limited!)

This workshop will support you in recognizing your inner strength, you will  be reminded and begin to trust what your body is able to do... birth.  In the course of reminding you of what you already know, you will relearn tools to effectively manage your “thoughts” while in labor.  No matter where you are in your pregnancy, you can start right now in making a new choice in supporting yourself and your baby.  The ultimate goal is to have a healthy baby.  If receiving pain medications during labor best supports your journey, then that is what you are to do.  But before you get to the pain medication, may you know in your heart that you have done and gone as far as you can go in the labor process.  No matter how you choose to give birth, may you do it laboring in love, be willing to relinquish any feelings of guilt that may surface about past or present choices and be very quick to offer yourself forgiveness.   I advocate women having their best birth experience and these experiences vary from woman to woman.  So… pregnant mamas, do your best! Do your best!

I am aware that birth is full of the unexpected. However, for the healthy woman who is not health challenged, please consider opening your heart and minds to experiencing a natural birth.  Be willing to push through the fears and doubts.  A natural birth supports your health and your baby's health greatly and your recovery time is much faster.  To those women who have had complication upon complication with their pregnancy and your delivery is to be a c-section, you too, can benefit greatly from this workshop.

Educate yourself now! Open your mind to new possibilities!  Remember long ago, the collective belief was that the earth was flat, if you sailed too far, you'd fall of the edge!  Fear is a natural human response.  Our forefathers knew this in their exploration of uncharted territory and they did not allow this fear to stop them.  Pregnancy, parenthood is uncharted territory for the first time pregnant mom and dad.  These explorers did not set sail by themselves, they had a crew who believed as they believed, a crew who supported their vision, a crew who supported them when the seas got rough and fear set in.  Pregnant Mamas, who is a part of your birth crew?  Are you being positively supported in a new vision about pregnancy and childbirth or, are you engaging with a crew that believes that medication, epidurals is the only way, the best way to birth?  One of the keys to having a natural birth is to have a supportive crew of at least two while you birth!
To Find out more join us on August 25th!

I hope to see you at the workshop on August 25th!

My Mother Would Call it Divine Synchronicity

I was just at Mother's Market and turned to walk down the isle and saw a beautiful baby in her mother's arms.  This child held my eyes as I walked toward her.  I was so transfixed on her face that I didn't really see anything else.  As I came toward her, I began to speak to her, "hello little one, you precious little thing you, blau blau, blau." I was all in the oohing and awwwing phase of my dialog, and she was totally with me.  Her mother turned and I greeted her.  Beautiful and charming woman.  I said your daughter is such a sweetheart, what a light, something to this affect.  She agreed.  I looked at the woman and asked her straight out, which I never ever do.  Did you have her natural, she said no, she ended up with a c-section. I looked her right in the eye and just said, so be it. Let all that go, all that guilt, shame, whatever that is, you are doing just fine with her and by her. She admitted that she was feeling guilty. So we continue to talk back and forth, I gave her my card.  I said to her, your daughter came through just the way she needed to that is the best way for the two of you.  She stated that she wanted a natural birth but after three days, ended up with a c-section.

This brings me to why I share this story today, there are many women out there who are choosing c-sections for a variety of reasons.  And here this woman wanted with all her heart to have a natural birth and ended up with a c-section and carrying guilt about it.  I can tell that she put her heart and soul into that birth experience.  We have to let go of the guilt and truly understand that it does not serve us to hold onto it.  Even if you have chosen a c-section and realized later on that you "should not" have done it, you must come to a place where you forgive yourself.   For women who are choosing c-section because it is what they "want" to do, wake up! You are trying to control the birth process, when the baby comes, how the baby comes, trying to keep your vagina intact, wanting this doctor to deliver your baby, wanting your baby to have this birthday, etc. etc. etc.  This is outright manipulation of a natural and organic process known as birth, you may not see the results of your choice for many years, but when you do... you too, will be called to forgive yourself and to relinquish the judgments of having made such unconscious or conscious selfish decisions.

Every experience that we have, every choice that we make that is not in alignment with our Highest Self, our God-Self, is an experience and choice that will have to be made Holy.  Meaning... that we must shine the light of forgiveness, love and acceptance onto ourselves so that we release the guilt and shame that we have carried about making such a decision or having gone through an experience that we have not liked. Every moment must be made Holy. How am I to shift my perception about the manner in which I chose to birth, or urgent manner in which my child's birth occurred. It is not about what did I do wrong, it is about how can that birth, that choice now serve me into moving into greater peace about it. This shifting of perception takes work, it takes practice, it takes patience and of course, forgiveness.

Now, back to this woman I met, she too was holding tremendous guilt about how she birthed,  Probably feeling like a failure in that area, and so many other feelings.  The birth of her beautiful daughter will have to be made into a Holy experience within her psyche, within her soul.  She has to shift her perception about herself, of all the what ifs, how come I didn't, if only I had, etc. etc., etc.  All these unsupportive ego thoughts have to be released, so that she can be on her way to living life in the affirmative.  Even if she has not been thinking of this quilt everyday, it has been simmering deep inside her taking up residence.  She needs to evict that guilt! We all need to evict our guilt from taking up residence within us!  FORGIVENESS is the eviction notice if guilt has taken up residence in your consciousness.  We best "git" busy!

In closing, to this beautiful woman and her 9 month old beautiful baby girl, I do believe we had a divinely synchronistic moment this morning, and I am most grateful.  Thank you.  Your daughter truly saw me and I truly saw her, and somewhere in her soul her frequency reasonated to me, "lady, come talk to my mama and let her know that she is doing a great job with me, I love her so much and I am so happy she is my mama!"

I Forgive Me! I am Ready for my Change!

      The Power of Forgiveness
I Forgive Me, I am ready for My Change....
into Motherhood, Parenthood

Some years ago while on a birth with a client, I had played this song by Tim Mcafee-Lewis, "I Forgive Me."  I had driven to clients' home in the wee hours of the morning 5:30am.  We had a wonderful time throughout the day, we walked, she napped,  she drank fluids in between contractions to remain hydrated, we walked some more, bounced on ball, she danced with her husband, he made breakfast for us, napped some more, etc..  Now it was around 3:30ish or so and as I would check in internally to see if baby was okay, I would hear (as I had been hearing all week from this little soul), "I'm good, check with mommy).  I would always hear, in my head "I'm good."  So, today, his birthday, I was hearing him say those same words again "I'm Good," in my head.

Her contractions would start, then stop, then start, be irregular then stop again.  I finally decided to heed the little one's advice.  I looked at my client and came up real close to her and said, we need to talk.  It is time to go even deeper.  (At this point, we are still in her home).  Your contractions are stopping and starting with no consistency.  I need to see a consistent pattern before we can go to hospital.  I asked her, what is on your mind?  Do you feel ready? Yes.  Are you worried about anything? No. How is your home life? good. How is your relationship with husband? good.  Are you ready to see and hold baby? yes.  Are you concerned about finances? "Well, yes, but we're managing."  I looked at her real close.  Are you holding shame about something?  "Crocodile tears, sprung forth from her eyes."  Truly a beautiful moment for me.  She was surprised at her own response.  I just said, let it flow, let's go with this.  I asked her to tell me the source of the tears and what the shame is.  She spilled it out, all of it.  I wanted to hear it all and she gave it up.  I asked if she had told her husband, she had not.  I said, okay, I'm going to get him now and I want you to tell him everything you just told me and don't hold anything back.  And... while you're talking with him, I want you to play this song "I Forgive Me") 5 times as you tell him, then sit and listen to it when you're done talking.

She did as I asked, and 50 minutes later, her husband came out of bedroom.  I asked how are things, he said good and are the contractions coming more regularly, he said yes, they are now 5-7 minutes a part.  He went on back outside and continued "father-nesting" around the house.  I went in to attend to her.  Now, she was ready to be a mama, now that she had given birth to herself, she was ready to birth forth her baby.  From that point on, things were up and moving.... within an hour or so, we were hauling a_ _ out the front door, backed-out-of-driveway, down the street and heading north on the 405 freeway!

As a doula, I have to listen and be in tune to the Infinite Intelligence that is God as me, my Higher Consciousness, God Consciousness.  I have to listen closely and be obedient.  I felt the presence of the "Holy Spirit" fall upon and emerge from within me and my client that day.  I felt so light, so aligned.  We had no choice but to be within one another in the purity and rawness of the moment and her emotions.  Her husband, an absolute "light being and devoted man" himself was right there the whole time, loving her, forgiving her, kissing her, nurturing her, holding love and joy for his beloved son.  It was an absolute joy to be with this couple.  My heart fills with love just writing this now and this birth was years ago.

To Tim Mcafee-Lewis, thank you for your music, so healing, so God-filled, Love-filled, Light-filled - You and your music are a Treasure!  Thank you!  My client birthed into motherhood listening to your music!

The Art of Pregnancy

Art: to sculpt; skill, talent, knack, ability... and then there is Fine Art.

I would love to hear about your "Art of Pregnancy" "Your Fine Artistry during Pregnancy" a profound experience(s) that you had during your pregnancy where you made being pregnant a true "Art Form."
  • How you sculpted yourself to have the pregnancy and birth you wanted?  What did you do?
  • How did you transform?
  • What did you innately know to do?
  • How did you defy old perceptions about pregnancy and childbirth and have the  natural joy-filled birth experience that totally uplifted and expanded you, your partner and your family?!
I will be posting questions over these next weeks about pregnancy and wanting to hear about your experiences, if you are willing to share.  I am providing support to pregnant women and want to backup our gatherings with experiences that will assist them through their own pregnancy and birth experiences.

Thank you so much for your time! I truly appreciate it!

Much Love!

Prayer for Mamas-to-Be

Beloved Pregnant Mamas-to-Be,

May the presence and the power of God consciousness continue to be realized by each of you.  May you birth with faith, power and grace.  May the Adi Shakti energy within you be consciously ignited by your thought and prayerful stance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth.  May you stand in the knowingness that you can birth naturally; may you be willing to surrender old thought forms; may you be willing to adjust your vision to the absolute wonder and natural possibilities that birth is an honor and privilege, and may your vision be single to this fact alone, and not to the incessant unnecessary chatter of  how others have birthed (especially if their birth story does not support the vision of how you choose to give birth); may you see this passage into motherhood for what it truly is a Divine miraculous moment for you and your family. Pregnancy and childbirth are conscious raising activities, may you elevate your consciousness and attune yourself to the Divine Feminine Essence that you are ~ the I Am Consciousness.  Go forth and birth as the God in you intended it to be.  Blessings.

How childbirth can truly be experienced.... if we surrender and allow

Just one of my favorites and thought I would share it again!

Would love to know... What did you experience during labor and childbirth? I'm doing research.

Thank you for responding to my blog.  I am deeply appreciative of your sharing your childbirth experience(s) and story.  At the end of your response, please put your first name or initials and the city, state, country that you are responding from.

I am doing this research because I want to gain greater clarity and insight around the choices a woman makes when she is pregnant, why she makes these choices.   Particularly, women who have birthed before and having done it before, how would you do it differently next time, if you would even change a thing.  If your childbirth experience was traumatic, perhaps sharing it here will give you an opportunity to clear it out of your psychic and create healing for yourself.  If you had a supportive birthing experience, please share that as well.

Did you have the childbirth experience you wanted?  Why or why not.  Please share with me and others your story.

Did/do you prefer to have a medicated birth (epidural)?  Why?

Did/do you prefer to have a natural vaginal (nonmedicated birth)?  Why?

If you had the opportunity to birth differently, would you?

If you had or have the opportunity to have loving support around you during your pregnancy labor (a doula), would you choose a natural childbirth?

Again, I thank you for your sharing and your time.

In love and appreciation,

Are you Pregnant? And are you Meditating? If not, best get busy sittin Still

"Pregnancy provides you with blessed opportunities to adjust your frequency, and nurture your child growing in your womb.  Include meditation in your daily schedule: create the intention, visualize yourself meditating, arrange the time when you meditate, and encourage yourself.  Establishing meditation in your life now, creates a uplifting habit which will nurture you during the challenging times of parenting.
