Join our MEETUP GROUP and be a part of ongoing prenatal support!  Click on the link below!

I am passionate and so happy to finally be teaching yoga again, especially prenatal yoga.  When a woman commits to herself, her pregnancy, her child, she will take the steps necessary and required of her to maintain her health and wellbeing throughout the pregnancy.  Being committed and having a consistent yoga practice is so important to a pregnant woman's state of mind and physically body.  Please join us this  Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 7:15pm-8:30pm at Seventh Chakra Yoga in Huntington Beach, CA 92646 and step into the healing womb of your own being as you commune with yourself and commune with your baby.

"Pregnancy is one of the most special times in a woman's life. It is a time for nurturing, slowing down and learning to meditate, while being in the company of other mothers-to-be. These unique Prenatal Yoga Classes provide safe, simple and effective exercises designed to strengthen and relax your rapidly changing body, preparing you for a conscious childbirth. Join other pregnant women as you strengthen your physical body with yoga, and bring clarity and fearlessness to your mind through meditation, and free yourself with dance.

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is the cornerstone of our Prenatal Yoga classes, which go far beyond the physical realm of mere movement. Our prenatal program helps mothers-to-be discover a deeper sense of peace and harmony within, lifting blocks of fear, doubt and old conditioning out of pregnancy, birth, as well as life. Developing a meditative mind, she brings this to her birth experience, as well as to her family and home. Our goal... creating a more peaceful world through strong and conscious mothers. Come share with other women in community, as you strengthen your body, relax your mind, and trust in your own power and strength. All women at any stage in their pregnancy are welcome."  (by GBY)

This EmPower Your Birth Marathon is a wonderful opportunity to either jump start your pregnancy and childbirth vision OR solidify what you have already learned in your childbirth classes!  I have chosen 4 of the BEST childbirth films out there to support you on your pregnancy journey.  These films are positive, educational and uplifting about the pregnancy and childbirth process! They give an honest view of the different ways a woman can choose to birth, WITHOUT all of the drama and fear that society wants to attach to the pregnancy and childbirth experience! I put this series of films together to show pregnant women, expectant couples and families that there is another way to give birth, (no matter where you decide to birth in a hospital, home or birth center)

You have nothing to lose and absolutely EVERYTHING to gain by attending!

IT'S GOING TO BE FUN!!  So....  Dress comfortably, bring snacks and drinks for yourself, pillows, blanket or your favorite chair! Grandparents, aunts, uncles are welcome or if you are even thinking of becoming pregnant! (No children allowed to this event. Thank you for understanding!)

REGISTER EARLY TO RESERVE YOUR SEAT!  See you on Sunday, October 26th at 11am!

"I thought that this was really going to be a waste of my time. I thought I would be grossed out by the films, but I surprised myself. I learned so much and I'm glad I came! Thank you Angela for hosting this film marathon."   D. Nguyen, Irvine

"I was willing to do whatever I needed to, to support my wife. Our hospital childbirth classes did not cover in detail or as honestly the things that these films covered.  My wife and I learned more in these four hours than we did in our hospital childbirth classes!  Angela is so knowledgeable about birth, clear in her teaching, and passionate. My wife and I were so convinced after the movie marathon, that we couldn't wait to hire her as our doula. Best investment we ever made! Thanks Angela!"  A. Bernard, Los Angeles

Childbirth Movie Marathon!! - June 21, 2014

IT'S TIME TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW, POSITIVE & UPLIFTING about Childbirth at the Childbirth Movie Marathon June 21, 2014!. A raising of consciousness about labor and birth. There is an innate truth about your pregnancy and childbirth that you must tap into now. Do not waste another moment of your pregnancy languishing in doubt, fear and confusion.  There are still too many c-sections.  Mamas-to-be it is vitally important for you to educate yourself, empower yourself!

These films will help you awaken to a deeper trust within yourself!
We would love for you to join us!

Recently, I have been talking with some mamas, who are now pregnant with their second child, and every last one of them communicated to me that they thought they had prepared and knew what they needed to know prior to going into labor and giving birth. What I have learned about many first time pregnant women is that, she does not know what she does not know.  So, I believe it is in her best interest to continue to research information, attend classes that will further educate her in getting a clear, well-rounded and honest view of pregnancy, labor and childbirth.
I offer these Movie Marathons as a way to visually learn in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere for women and men where each can have their questions answered clearly and honestly. I want you to feel CALM and EMPOWERED when you go into labor, especially, if you are having a hospital birth.

If you are having a hospital birth and have taken the traditional hospital childbirth education classes, I highly, highly recommend that you and your partner attend this filming. I will tell you right now that in those classes, you were not taught how to have an empowered birth. You were taught how to have a hospital birth that benefits the hospital and not you as a conscious thinking, self-aware pregnant and laboring woman. I am not about forcing women into having natural births or medicated births, but I do believe in giving information so that you make informed and conscious decisions so that you do not feel manipulated or pressured by hospital staff when you are giving birth.  If you are birthing outside of a hospital, these films will greatly support you as well.

These are truly wonderful and uplifting childbirth films that will only increase your confidence about your childbirth experience. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Beautiful Birth Testimonial - Thank you!

"The first visit I had with Angela Brown, I immediately felt safe and comforted in her presence.  I had learned about Angela online through visiting her website, as I searched for a doula that seemed to understand my birthing mentality. Seeing Angela's website and birthing philosophy resonated with my own outlook on giving birth: that is a sacred, special, and natural process, that should be valued and nurtured.

I felt relieved to find Angela, and even more relieved when I met her in person. She has a wisdom and understanding presence about her that made me feel secure and confident in a world that often makes pregnant women feel strange and insecure.  While I had my own fears and personal hardships that surfaced during my pregnancy, Angela listened to my thoughts and concerns as we spoke weekly. She never judged my thoughts or concerns. She only listened, gave healing advice, and encouragement that helped me in moments when I needed a voice of clarity, and could not hear my own. When it came time to give birth, Angela was right there with me, holding my hand. As I was skeptical of hospital procedures and practices, Angela gave me solid information and a calm voice to listen to during the long hours at the hospital. She honored my desires in birthing, she supported me in a situation that most people cannot face. What I love most about my experience with Angela, is that she is not afraid. She does not shy away. She is confident in her abilities, and her confidence radiates to her clients (to me) in a way that eases fear or tension during the birthing process. I am truly blessed to have had Angela Brown present with me during my pregnancy and during my delivery. I achieved my birthing goals with her help, and could not
have made it through without her. Thank You Angela."

Empowered Holistic Childbirth in a Hospital Setting Coming to Costa Mesa, CA!

Pregnant Mamas & Papas to Be!

Childbirth requires you to listen into yourself, requires patience, being in the moment. How are you going to successfully manage and cope with the "pain" of childbirth? How will you stave off panic, fear, exhaustion, should one or all three arise? How will you manage the hospital staff should you feel pressured to make a choice or birth in a way you don't wish to? Do you know?  It is very important to educate yourself with quality childbirth educators that will give you an accurate and well-rounded approach to the birthing process.  Invest in yourself and your child and build a powerful consciousness in order to make clear and informed decisions about birth so that you have a trauma free birth experience.  You and your child, at the very least, deserve this much.

Read Holly's story below:

"I think about Holly and how she was automatically given an epidural by the doctor when she got to the hospital. Of course it makes sense that mothers who have no experience of their vastness would want that. When we don't know how to handle pain, we want to run from it. It's an alien concept in our culture to consider that any form of pain can actually be useful. When you don't have techniques to cope with normal pain, or even the experience of being uncomfortable, you will believe something is wrong. If you take the time now to give yourself tools to come to know your body and the power of your mind, so much can be accomplished. Pain can truly be transformed into sensation.

Childbirth is a transcendent experience. Going through childbirth without drugs can give you a new sense of power that you never knew existed, giving you a sense of strength that will change the way you approach future challenges. When we feel in charge of our birth experience, we may go into (birthing) and mothering more confidently and make choices that are in the best interest of our children, even if those choices go against the grain of what the rest of society is doing." Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful by Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa

So... after reading that story, how prepared do feel in having a hospital birth? Do you want the medical staff to hear your voice and honor and respect your choices during childbirth?  Are you prepared to standup to hospital birth protocol? Do you want to remain calm and centered as you birth? Do you want to avoid a c-section? Well... if the answer to any one of these questions is YES, then register TODAY for this Empowering Pregnancy Seminar! Your child deserves your full conscious participation and attention in his or her birth. If you are healthy and your baby is healthy, don't just hand yourself over to the medical staff, there is another way. It is your choice to have an empowered birth. Remember, you are an expert about your own body, what you feel inside, how the baby moves; pregnancy gives you the wonderful opportunity to develop trust in yourself and stand in your expertise!

Preventing Cesarean Deliveries with Continuous Labor Support!

The American Congress of Obstetrics
Safe Prevention of the Primary Cesarean Delivery

“…. Although cesarean delivery can be life-saving, for the fetus, the mother or both, in certain cases, the rapid increase in the rate of cesarean births without evidence…. raises significant concern that cesarean delivery is overused…."  Increasing a woman’s access to nonmedical intervention during labor, such as continuous labor and delivery support, (aka Doulas) also has been shown to reduce cesarean birth rates."
"Therefore, it is important for health care providers to understand the short-term and long-term tradeoffs between cesarean and vaginal delivery, as well as the safe and appropriate opportunities to prevent overuse of cesarean delivery, particularly primary cesarean delivery.” Thus, a prolonged latent phase labor (eg, greater than 20 hours in nulliparous women (first time pregnant women) and greater than 14 hours in multiparous women (a woman who has birthed before) should not be an indication for a cesarean delivery.”
"Safe reduction of the rate of primary cesarean deliveries will require different approaches for each of these, as well as other, indications. For example, it may be necessary to revisit the definition of labor dystocia because recent data show that contemporary labor progresses at a rate substantially slower than what was historically taught….

So Mamas-to-Be, modern medicine is now admitting some things and this is confirmation for so many midwifes, doulas and childbirth educators out there. Although, we knew this, but it is nice to see progressive scientific medical research backing us up! I encourage you pregnant mamas to do the work during pregnancy so you can have a trauma free birth experience. Be careful of the the pressure to be induced, based on the concept that your baby is late, too overdue, too big, or your own restlessness, doctor's schedule, your physical discomfort, other people's impatience that may influence you and lead you down a road of making impatient and fear-based choices.  Such as; induction methods: cervical swipe, breaking of waters, prostaglandin gel, Pitocin,  etc. etc. etc.)  If you are a healthy pregnant woman, carrying a healthy child, early medical intervention may lead you right down the rabbit's hole to an unwanted cesarean. Perhaps this "seeming late birth arrival" is calling you forth to be more patient during these remaining days of your pregnancy? Just something to think about.
